Care of your Dentures

  • It is important to clean your dentures after every meal.

  • If you wear a partial denture, remove the denture and clean it and your remaining teeth separately.

  • Clean your dentures with a soft toothbrush and a soapy detergent. Please do not use toothpaste as this is too abrasive and may abrade your denture.

  • Even with full dentures, you still need to take good care of your mouth. You can do this by brushing your gums, tongue and palate (roof of your mouth) with a soft toothbrush. This will remove plaque and stimulate circulation in the mouth.

  • You may choose to leave your dentures out at night to give your mouth and gums an opportunity to recover from the effort of supporting your dentures during the day.

  • Dentures should be stored in a glass of cool water. This allows your gums to breathe and remain healthy.

  • Feeling a little unwell? Always remember to remove your dentures if you are feeling nauseated – many dentures are lost this way!
